We invite you to join our Nerikomi workshop, a focused exploration of a traditional Japanese clay technique. Over the course of the session, you will work with two contrasting clay bodies, learning to layer, fold, and slice them to form patterns that are embedded within the structure of the piece rather than applied on the surface. By the end, you will have created your own marbled or geometric designs, with the pattern running fully through the walls of your finished pottery.
This session invites participants to explore a structured approach to patterned clay. The process begins with preparing two distinct clays, learning to layer and slice them without compromising colour contrast. Next, under instructor guidance, you select a pattern style—marble swirl, stripe, or geometric block—and apply it to clay slabs. These slabs are then shaped using hand-building techniques to form a functional dish, small bowl, or cup. The outcome is a finished, usable piece that demonstrates clarity of pattern and basic hand-building skills.
